Internship at LAUREAMKO

After my first internship, I wondered where I could do my second placement and I had no idea where to go and at which company since it has always been difficult for foreign degree students to get placement in most Finnish companies due to language barrier and other unknown reasons, so I went back the second time to do my placement on the same project I worked on before. Though working on the same project for my first and second internship was good I felt I did not get enough as to what goes on in a real working office in a more Finnish environment. There was that missing link I felt I needed  pertaining to the real Finnish working culture, then I red  from my school email that LAUREAMKO were seeking interns especially from international degree students, I realised it was a an opportunity I could not miss and I applied for it.

My internship at Laureamko was an excellent experience. The major opportunity to work with LAUREAMKO was a life changing experience as the people that I worked with are intelligent fun staff and have the passion to work. The first week I spent learning how the Laureamko office is run , their activities , my time schedule , duties and roles to perform and the working environment and I must say it was  good but demanding too. The coolest thing about my internship was that, I was treated just like the older people working there.

The hands on approach  to work which characterized the concept of learning by development allowed me to do more practical work which have helped me as a student to develop and prepare for the job market and working life after graduating from school. I have always have the passion to work in an environment that will give me the opportunity to meet and interact with people from different cultures and nationalities and I have never regretted join LAUREAMKO because it gave me that exposure as I met , serve and worked with different students from different backgrounds.. Working as a front desk officer was fun but very challenging as sometimes you have to do a lot of things at the same time and in the course will make some mistakes but , thank God! I have such a wonderful supervisor and the older guys who were always there to assist and help.

Though sometimes I get tired combining my actual work with my internship it was still worth it because I learnt a lot. My task during my internship period was to assist the international secretary to plan, organize and execute the activities of LAUREAMKO. Apart from this, I was privilege to attend some meetings and workshops on behalf of the student union and also give presentations about LAUREAMKO and their activities to my fellow students in some units of Laurea U.A.S, I could go on and on but one last thing that I really liked was the chance to be part in organizing the degree orientation day for the international degree students which was held in Porvoo 2010 and that fact that I was caught off guard to give the welcoming address when I was expecting my supervisor to do that. In the end I had a lot of fun , working experience and acquire some knowledge. I will always be grateful to LAUREAMKO my supervisor (my only boss), all the workers, students, lecturers and every one I came into contact with.
